Should you wait for a better rate?
Only if you can afford to wait and accept that the rate could get worse instead. Nobody can reliably predict exchange rates, so a practical approach is to send money when it is needed and keep the costs you control low.
For perspective, a typical day's move of 0.29% is smaller than the average cost of sending money from the UK to India, which was 1.91% in the third quarter of 2025 according to the World Bank. The fee and exchange-rate margin you pay can matter more than the day you send.

Does the pound to rupee rate change at the weekend?
No. The currency market closes at 5pm New York time on Friday, usually 10pm in the UK, and reopens at the same time on Sunday, so the mid-market rate stays at Friday's closing level. Some providers add a wider margin at weekends to protect themselves against a jump when markets reopen, so check the rate you are offered.
How is this analysis calculated?
We use daily closing mid-market rates for GBP/INR, calculated through the US dollar from our market data supplier's rates for each currency. Weekday and monthly figures are simple averages of the daily closes, and the typical daily move is the average size of the change from one close to the next. This analysis covers 356 daily closing rates from 3 November 2025 to 2 November 2026. The page is refreshed every hour and the daily figures update once a day.
