Using the crypto converter
How crypto conversion works
Cryptocurrencies are priced in US dollars on most exchanges. To show a price in another currency, the converter multiplies the coin's latest USD price by the current mid-market exchange rate between the dollar and that currency. For example, if Bitcoin trades at $60,000 and one dollar buys 0.92 euros, one Bitcoin is worth about €55,200.
Why your exchange may show a different price
Every exchange has its own order book, so prices can differ slightly between platforms. When you actually buy or sell, you also pay a trading fee and a spread, the gap between the buy and sell price. The converter shows the market rate before fees, which is the fairest benchmark to compare offers against.
Converting in both directions
Use the swap button to switch between coin-to-currency and currency-to-coin. Converting a fixed budget, such as 100 euros, into a coin amount is useful when you invest a set amount each month, a strategy known as dollar-cost averaging.
Tips before you trade
Check the total cost including fees, start with an amount you are comfortable losing, and remember that crypto prices can move several percent in an hour. Gains from selling crypto may be taxable where you live.
