P/E and dividend yield use net income and dividends paid over the last twelve months. Rankings by revenue, earnings and dividends cover 1,000 companies.
How these rankings work
- Source. The financial statements companies file with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in their 10-K, 10-Q, 20-F and 40-F reports, read every week from the SEC's public EDGAR data.
- Trailing twelve months. Revenue, net income and dividends cover the latest four quarters: the last fiscal year, plus this year's quarters so far, minus the same quarters a year earlier. Companies that report only once a year, as most foreign companies do, show their last fiscal year, marked FY.
- Which companies. The 1,000 largest by revenue among companies whose shares or ADRs are listed on the NYSE, Nasdaq, Cboe or the Texas Stock Exchange. Funds, trusts, blank-check companies and preferred shares are left out.
- Currencies. Figures reported in other currencies are converted to US dollars at the latest reference exchange rate.
- Market cap. The latest share price times the shares outstanding stated on the cover of the company's latest 10-Q or 10-K. For companies with several share classes, such as Alphabet, Meta, Berkshire Hathaway and Visa, every class is counted, converted into the class whose price is shown. Market cap, P/E and dividend yield are available for the companies whose share prices Sonic Wallet tracks.
- Banks. Banks that don't report a total revenue figure are ranked by net interest income plus non-interest income.

Frequently asked questions
Which US company has the largest market cap?+
Of the companies on this page, Apple is the most valuable, with a market cap of $5.03T, followed by Nvidia at $4.94T.
How is market cap calculated?+
Market capitalization is the share price times the number of shares outstanding. Sonic Wallet uses the latest price and the share count on the cover of each company's most recent 10-Q or 10-K filing. For companies with more than one share class, every class is counted.
Why does this page list only some companies?+
Market cap needs a live share price, and Sonic Wallet tracks prices for these large US companies. The revenue, earnings and dividend rankings cover the 1,000 largest US-listed companies.
What is a P/E ratio?+
The price-to-earnings ratio is market cap divided by net income over the last twelve months: how many years of current profit investors are paying for. It is left blank for companies without a profit.
What is dividend yield?+
Dividends paid over the last twelve months as a percentage of market cap: roughly the yearly cash return from dividends for someone buying at today's price.
